Montessori

“The most important period is not the age of University, but the period from birth to the age of six, for that is the time when intelligence itself is being formed.”

-Dr. Maria Montessori

Fountain Park Academy offers both a Toddler Montessori program for children 18 months to 36 months and a Pre-school Montessori Program for children 3 yrs – 6 yrs. Montessori is a time tested education philosophy that focuses on the whole child: academically, socially and emotionally. The Montessori classroom allows children to touch, manipulate, move and explore freely and facilitates the natural learning experience of children.

Each material in a Montessori classroom isolates one quality for the child to discover. For example, the material known as the pink tower consists of ten pink cubes of varying sizes. The child constructs a tower with the largest cube on the bottom and the smallest on top. This isolates the concept of size since all the cubes are the same texture and color and the only difference is in their size.

Moreover, the materials are self-correcting. When pieces do not fit or a piece is left over, the child easily perceives the error. There is no need for adult “correction.” The child is able to solve problems independently, building self-confidence, analytical thinking and the satisfaction of accomplishment.

The core of the Montessori Primary Curriculum is made up of the following: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Science, Geography and Art. We establish an individual education plan for each child that fosters their academic achievement, strengthens self-esteem and teaches an appreciation for cultural and social diversity. We are committed to maintaining an environment that promotes development of the whole person by engendering responsibility to self, others and local and global communities
